Barrio

A Film by Alexander Ibarra

Staring: Chei Maguey, Jackie Torres, Dominique Cala and Jason Gutierrez.

“In the heart of Portland’s shifting landscape, a recent graduate confronts the enigma of her future while working as a cashier at her aunt’s beloved Mexican bakery. As the scent of tradition intertwines with the winds of transformation, our protagonist and her aunt grapple with the imminent closure and bittersweet farewell of their bakery amidst neighborhood gentrification.”

Inspired by Alexander Ibarra’s (director of Barrio) own experiences growing up in southern Oregon, Barrio is a poignant and relatable comedy/drama about Brown faces as they navigate through a city that seems to have left them behind and set around the generational gaps between the first-generation children and the immigrants that guided them to a better life. However, that better life isn’t as affordable as they thought it would be.
