From Upward Bound Student to Professor
Thanks to the government program Upward Bound, students who never dreamed about going to a North American university were able to. Jackie Torres was one of those students when she was in high school at the small town of Cayey, Puerto Rico. She did not speak English then, but she set her mind on studying communications in that language and in the United States. She was stubborn enough to achieve both goals, learning English and graduating with a Master’s Degree in Public Communications. Being a part of Upward Bound during her high school years planted the seed to obtain the best college education possible and that is why today she joins the team of educators of this successful educational program at Loyola Marymount University in California.
