Actress Jackie Torres

Acting is a dream of many, following it brings joys but also plenty of rejection: sexism, racism, ageism & moral dilemmas. Jackie has experienced them all and this, instead of making her quit, has made her a more succesful actress.

The beginning

Actress Jackie Torres started her career on stage at her school plays. After that, at the end of high school, she began acting in TV commercials. Later on, she acted on music video “No More Loneliness” for “Mutant”, a local rock band. Although the video got limited exposure, it gave Jackie the big break she needed.

Local TV

The music video introduced Jackie to channel 13, a local TV station. There, she hosted “TVS”, a show that featured rock bands from the late 80’s. Little did she know, among her viewers was top TV and radio producer Héctor Marcano. Soon enough, Jackie was invited to work with him for the number one TV network of Puerto Rico: Telemundo.

TV career in Hispanic TV

Jackie continued her acting career with comedic characters. Among her shows on Telemundo were “Marcano…El Show” and “Con lo que cuenta este país”.  Later on, Jackie crossed over to Hispanic TV in the US with “La Hora Lunática.”

The World of Cinema

This show brought Jackie to Los Angeles. Besides writing and producing, Jackie acted in comedy sketches. She also reported events in a funny way. Yet, her goal was to have more serious acting roles. She fulfilled that desire with Laguna Films, a southern California film company. Firstly, she was palm reader Mireya in “El Güero Estada”. Secondly, she played a serial killer for “Clave Secreta”. Thirdly, she was the sweet bride Lucrecia for “Cuatro Meses de Libertad”. Lastly, she was a drug lord on  “La Paloma y El Gavilán”.

Hollywood

These, and other acting roles, lead Jackie to act in films made in the US.  Independent film “The Price of the American Dream” was her key to Hollywood. TV series “Blood Relatives” for the Discovery Channel was also helpful. Several TV series for TLC paved her way to bigger shows. Among them, “Black Monday” for Showtime, “Torchwood” for Starz, “Bosch” for Amazon and “ER” for CBS.
